Question by nick: How has LASIK eye surgery made a positive impact on today’s society?
I am doing a project on LASIK eye surgery for NHD (National History Day) and need some help with some ideas about how LASIK has changed society for the better. One example I thought of was that it allows those who had less than amazing eye sight to not have to use wreck specs or contacts while participating in sports and such. = / need help asap. please.

I had Lasik this past year and it was the best thing I ever did!! My eyes were rated the second to worst out there. I had the hard German measles as a kid and it wrecked my sight. For years I wore thick glasses and could never see what was in front of me when I took them off. I was nearsighted. I went through numerous hard contacts to soft contacts. Not having good sight I never learned to swim since I couldn’t judge where I was at. After the surgery I cried for joy since I could tell my sight was clearing. It’s been fantastic. I have 20/20 in my right eye and 20/30 in my left eye. I’d become a spokesperson for Lasik if they would let me!

Question by letitsnow: What is the lowest vision that they will perform lasik surgery on?
I want to get lasik but Im afraid my vision isn’t bad enough. I have -2.00 in both eyes and -.25 astigmatism. I wear contacts but i get sick of putting them in and taking them out everyday and not being able to fall asleep watching tv and not being able to see the clock when I wake up. Would I be a good candidate for it? I have still have to wait though b/c even though im old enough my eyes haven’t stablized yet.

Your prescription is well within the range that they do LASIK on. Prescriptions like yours often yield the best results.

Question by its meee: How old should you be to get Lasik Eye surgery done?
I am 20 years old. I’ve had glasses since i was about 16 or 17. I am seriously looking into Lasik eye surgery because i hate wearing my glasses ( i am near sighted)
Recently it seems as though my eyes have gotten worse. My glasses work fine when i have them on, but i’ve been noticing that when i dont wear them, its getting harder & harder to see things i once could.
Question is, how old are you supposed to be to get this done? If i get it done now, and say a year or two down the road it starts getting worse again do they do ‘free touch ups?’
Also, if anyone knows, how does sitting in front of a computer affect your eyes? I’m a writer, so i spend plenty of time in front of the screen.
Thanks!
Also, how do i find a Lasik eye specialist near me..and how do i know they are legit & safe?

18 is the magic age so you’re fine there. you eyes will get worse with glasses as you’ll become more dependent on them as time goes on. once it’s done, it’s usually good for life. my sil had this done quite a few yrs ago. she had coke bottle glasses and now needs nothing. she uses a computer all day and has no problems. of course each person is different. find a good opthamologist in your area. he can refer you to a good center for this. we have a lrg eye clinic in our area which deals in nothing but diseases of the eye. don’t reley on the ads you here on radio and tv. i don’t trust those guys. have it vhecked to see if you’re a candidate. i can tell you, if you are to farsighted, they probably won’t do it as lasix doesn’t work on that. that’ the reason i couldn’t have it done.
good luck
